In 1955 my father-in-law Nick Arundel brought a pair of gorillas from Africa on a commercial flight to America and donated them to the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. It was the beginning of dramatic changes for the gorillas and for the zoo that would evolve from an antiquated animal park to an internationally respected animal conservation center.
If you are in the Washington, D.C. area, please join me for a discussion on my book, Raising America's Zoo: How Two Wild Gorillas Helped Transform the National Zoo. I will share the stories of these first generation of gorillas, the people who cared for them, and the modernization of the National Zoo.
Where: Ms. Peacock's Champagne Lounge, 929 Garfield Street, NW, Arlington, Virginia
When: Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 7 p.m. Open to the public.
    Thank you, Kara Arundel
