On my only visit since RORA was opened I saw the Sumatrans in both outdoor enclosures. Mind you, they only went outside very briefly. I can see why they may need to rotate their use though if the indoor enclosures are anything to go by...;)

The Borneans at Chester seem to be rather a 'non-exhibit' at present....

I reckon that it's a force of habit really.

None of the three females used their island much before RORA and were inside during the RORA construction period and I believe Tuan didn't have an outside enclosure whilst at Antwerp, so I reckon they just prefer to stay indoors for that reason.

Reading the post about Paignton zoo's pregnant orangutans, got me thinking about chester orangutans and whether their initial meeting with Tuan manage to produce any pregnancies?

If so surely they would of been due by now?

    Anyone asked about this recently?

I asked in mid September and at that time no pregnancies had been confirmed.

Can anyone confirm whether Chester's new female Bornean orang from Dvur Kralove is Dona, aged 28ish, or Nona, aged 13?

That's what we were originally told, but I've heard that it could be Nona who's arrived.

It´s 100% Dona who was sent to Chester Monday afternoon. Nona lives since 9.9.2005 in Moscow zoo.

Has Kevin from Berlin arrived yet?

Do any of you Chester zoo goers know? Kevin's a Bornean, wild born in 1982.

Great news about the Sumatran baby:)

I wonder why they're bringing in another male Bornean, unless they are planning to split the Bornean group into 2 (1.1 and 1.2) perhaps (that's also assuming Nona is being brought in to partner Sibu before the pair is sent away).

Great news about the sumatran baby as well. 4 young Orangs in one enclosure will be a sight to see!

It was mentioned on here that he was back at Chester temporarily as they were looking to pair him with a compatible partner before sending the pair onto a zoo.

It was also mentioned that Phase 2 of RoRA would not be constructed until the pair were moved to antoher collection once a suitable mate was found.

There may be no destination planned yet- I believe they hope to pair him up first. Wherever he goes they will need a strong enclosure, he started to take the one at Barcelona apart....

    Chester Zoo - Orang-utan Birth

Currently 5 Borneans according to website. If Dona has just arrived, and Sibu has not gone, then by my reckoning there should be 2.4, assuming Kevin has not arrived. Does anyone have up to date information? Thanks

    As far as i know:

Sibu has left and currently at Dublin Zoo - if you check the dublin zoo website their is a story of him returning to the zoo ...

The 5 orangs left are Martha , Leia , Tuan , Donna , Sarikei

    so 1 .4

I dont know about Kevin sorry ....
