I got a year pass because they're open late and are indoors. It's a really nice place and I like how they have free wifi unlike the zoo. I still like both and they're nice places to reflect on the world

Tonight's episode of "Private Eyes", a Toronto-based drama/comedy that also airs in the US, involves Ripley's - a valuable octopus gets stolen. Like any show involving animals, it's filled with BS - the octopus, found off the coast of korea, is only the second known one left in the world, so he gets sent to Toronto while the female is in Australia, and then they send the female to Toronto too? The aquarium has also spent millions funding the biologist's research into this species and then getting this animal for her (who was discovered just 3 weeks before the theft). The animal in the photo at the beginning looks like a giant pacific.
They did at least say the octopus was in a smaller tank because they were slowly acclimating him.

The episode is Season 2, #14, "Finding Leroy". The main scene at the beginning is shot in the shark tunnel, as well as the ending when they "release" the octopuses (bad cgi). Americans can see a preview here, not sure if it works in Canada: Episodes | Private Eyes | ION Television

The aquarium has acquired lemon sharks recently. They are now on display in Dangerous Lagoon.

Surprised not much info was posted on Ripleys and what has happened recently

One of thier Sawfish suffered an injury. After this started being bullied so was transferred out to Florida location. Other Sawfish went too as they were a pair.

Ripleys had some parasite infection in main tanks. They used copper to treat this, but apparently the Sandtiger was sensitive to copper and needed to leave as well. In Buffalo now.

After they removed all the large predators they added Lemon Sharks to fill the gap.

Where did you get this info from? Because I don't think this is true given that neither Aquarium of Niagara or Buffalo Zoo keep sand Tiger sharks, so even if the Sandtiger left Ripleys, you got the recieving location wrong.

The keepers were correct technically but they should have been more specific. The sharks were sent to their marine science center in Buffalo, New York. Not to the Buffalo Zoo or Aquarium of Niagara.

Did they ever re-open the touch areas? Used to have a bunch of them downstairs (between kids play areas) but havn't seen them since pre-covid

Also had an area on top floor (just before the ray area) that again seems to have been closed since pre-covid

Hadn't visited since summer so wonder if they are back or had plans to re-open them

In October there were kids playing downstairs on some sort of submarine-themed playground.
