I believe the busses cover the whole drive-through safari as well, not just the African paddock. So there is no need for a car in order to see everything. :)

Note, for any planning purposes, that going on the boat safari is likely to involve a very long queue on busy days - to the extent that might want to consider whether it's better not to bother.

Yesterday the first Giraffe for 2019 was born at Beekse Bergen. For both parents this is their first calf. Beekse Bergen has the largest Giraffe-population ( several groups ) in Europe, no less then 36 (!) animals :) :

A visit today left me with only four new(?) things that I noticed:
    - the sitatunga have been moved over to the red buffalo paddock and are going to be introduced (I think?) there, leaving the Nile lechwe and the hippos mixed. The marabou storks have also been moved (that I could see at least) from the great white pelican exhibit also to the hippo exhibit
    - the red ruffed lemurs and lar gibbons have switched exhibits - the ruffed lemurs are now on the island neighbouring the belted ruffed lemurs and the lars are on the island by the entrance to the zoo. Also of note was some ring-tailed lemurs on the island with the belted ruffeds....possibly those from the island the boat safari goes past?
    - a new exhibit is being prepared near the sloth bears and the white-cheeked gibbons.
    - a bunch of female nyala are mixed with the male okapi at present

On Sept. 15 2 Cheetahs ( a male and a female ) were born at Beekse Bergen.
Mother Kate was already a proven breeder but for the male Duma these are his first offsprings.
With these young the population at Beekse Bergen is now 5 males and 12 females.

At an age of 53 years Europe's oldest White-cheeked gibbon past away this morning. In the Gallery several photos of Mizzy can be found like this one which I made on her 50th birthday :

Ben, a Lar Gibbon at Hamerton Zoo, is older than this: he was born in the late 1950s, and was at Guernsey Zoo before coming to Cambridgeshire. More information is available here, from @Andrew Swales: The Oldest timers.

There's also a slightly cheesy BBC snippet about him here:
The oldest swinger in town hits 60

Okay? However they said White-cheeked Gibbon. So not sure what a Lar has to do with this :p

Quite a bit, I wouid have thought - as there appears to be no data showing that Lars live longer than other spp.

Sorry - I just thought it was an interesting piece of information to place alongside @vogelcommando ‘s report from Beekse Bergen.

Beekse bergen is building a cycle path on the savannah. Visitors will be able to cross the savannah with their own bike or with a rented bike (for 3 euros). All benefits will go for its wildlife foundation.

    Ga jij binnenkort op Fietssafari?

    I guess it's a first time to cycle on a savannah !

BTW, is there any zoo where you can bike inside?
