The Cape buffalos at Beekse Bergen are kept in an enclosure directly next to the big drive-through African Plains. By way of experiment they were released today on the big plain and they seemed to enjoy it ! :

There should be three groups of chimps now at Beekse Bergen if I'm not wrong, a bachelor group of five, and two breeding groups of nine and 10 respectively. Which group is where in the zoo? I know that there are chimps at the entrance to the zoo (where the new breeding group of gorillas are based) and chimps next door to the bachelor group of gorillas further into the zoo, but that's all I know??

The route through the safari-part of the park has been changed and makes now a better view at the animals possible. New is the Desert-area in which Dromedary"s, Ostriches and Addaxes can be seen. The Addaxes are at the moment the only ones on display in the Netherlands.

Yes, the female was first time mum Ansje and she is almost 29 years old (if I'm not mistaken ;) ) . At least it is a good news about a female to became pregnant for the first time at that age. Hope for another baby in the future, finger crossed!

The breeding of Ansje in itself is good news. I am confident that she will carry to term and probably raise her next calf well. Females with weak calves sometimes instinctively reject theirs ...

A group of 7 Californian sea-lions is coming to Beekse Bergen and will be released in the large lake, making this the largest sea-lion-enclosure in Europe :).
