there is speculation on the park's elephant blog that female elephant Ndulamitsi is pregnant. Apparently people who watch the web cam witnessed Ndula under going an ultra sound procedure and connected the dots from Msholo's lack of interest. Her so called pregnancy has been dubbed "Mabu's parting gift." (for those not following this elephant herd, Mabu was the bull who lived at the park since 2003 and was moved to the Reid Park zoo earlier this month)

I recently commented on a blog, telling of Lungile's pregnancy. I knew fully they would not publish this, and only wanted to see the response in email. Later, I received that email saying that she was not pregnant. If she actually is and they just do not want to announce, who knows. I guess we'll see in about a year

FYI Lungile is in Tucson now, not San Diego.

SDSP posted on Facebook that two Sumatran tigers were born "recently". They also included three photos!

The pair of cubs were the fourth litter to the resident pair, Delta and Utan

Litter one; 1.2 born 2006 named Rojo, Kemala and Sari

Litter two; 2.1 born 2008 named Harimau Kayu, Kucing and Dumai

Litter three; 0.2 born 2010 named Joanne and Majel

    Litter four; 0.0.2 born 2012

Utan is older than Delta so I expect this will be the last litter to the pair but they have done well having ten cubs in six years.

The two 'new' cubs are both boys, Maybe when one or both are old enough and there father Utan has passed on, they'll become breeding male with a new female arriving and Delta either moved on or kept in the park off-show or in retirement. It'll be difficult trying to source a new female however, as the cubs are very represented through there parents having ten cubs plus Utan having two siblings and Delta having a few too.

I agree. The design seems rather ambitious. It'll be cool, though, if they actually are able to build it and it looks as nice as the drawings make it out to be. I'm glad to see they're almost halfway to their goal and I really hope they make it. I was going to donate, but then I realized that my local zoo is also trying to raise money for a new Sumatran Tiger exhibit and I should donate to them first. I may still donate to San Diego, though.

There's nothing really ambitious about several netted, inter-connected tiger exhibits. It's been done many places.

I actually never have and I still think it looks ambitious from the plans. But hey, I also think the exhibit the Phoenix Zoo has planned is ambitious, too. It doesn't mean I want it to fail, I just don't see many exhibits that turn out exactly how it was designed.

Safari Park now has black footed cats???!!!

Those of you who know me will know this is huge news. I just got the latest ZooNooz which has a nice feature article on the small cats at the zoo and the park. At the end it mentions in passing that you can see black footed cats at the park. They have never had these before. Can anyone tell me where they are exhibited?
