Anyone been recently to see how construction is coming on the platypus area? And any news regarding them?

When I went about a week ago, the building seemed to be complete, and there was a notice outside about a new species for this exhibit. Not sure if it's platypus, but hopefully it is!

According to the excellent centennial history books, at one point in their history they considered closing the park due to low attendance. I am glad to see things have turned around!

Where abouts is the new building - didn't notice in November? I'm guessing it's in the Aussie area though?

Good Lord! That is probably the largest collection of antelope in any zoo.

Those all don’t all share the space with the giraffes right? If so I would expect more incidents like this

No. I just listed all of the species of antelope that the park has. But no not all of these species live with the giraffes

I'm pretty sure the Safari Park also has lowland nyala in an exhibit close by the Africa Tram station.

Some additional species that were there at the time of my species list from 2015:
    Nile Lechwe
    Red Lechwe
    Kenya Impala
    Scimitar-horned Oryx
    Gemsbok
    Lake Victoria Defassa Waterbuck
    Lowland Nyala
    Nubian Soemmerring's Gazelle
    Grant's Gazelle
    Sudan red-fronted Gazelle
    Eastern Yellow-backed Duiker
    Western Red-flanked Duiker
    Black Duiker
    Southern Steenbok
    Cavendish's Dik-dik

There were no Lesser Kudu or Speke's Gazelle at that time, but they were both in a shared exhibit at the San Diego Zoo at the time.

Oh wow. I couldn’t believed I missed all of those species. There are lesser kudu now in the Central African field enclosure and spekes gazelles I believe are with the grevy zebras

I have NEVER seen Soemmering's gazelles before!

They had steenbok at the Metro Richmond Zoo, but, unfortunately, I have never seen them there.

I can't believe they have a lot of different types of antelope at San Diego Zoo Safari Park! That must be more than Richmond has!

So sad about the baby giraffe.
