Santa Barbara Zoo is a nice zoo. Their elephant program is almost over with only one elderly female left, so they have a major project ahead to convert their elephant complex to something else. They are building a new giraffe barn and appeared to be expanding the golden lion tamarin complex. There are a pair of koalas on exhibit on loan from the San Diego Zoo. They are leaving in April. The highlight exhibits of the zoo are their California condor exhibit and Channel Island fox exhibit. The zoo grounds are a botanic garden in themselves and have a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean.
It's been rumoured Santa Barbara will turn the elephant exhibit into either a tiger exhibit or a rhino exhibit.
