In Dez. 1969 the zoo opened an Exhibit for Bears and a new one followed in March 1980. The site was predominantly occupied by polar bears, but at times American Black Bears, Sloth Bears, Asian Black Bears and Malay Sun bears also lived here. In view of the good polar bear breeding results, another large, well overgrown polar bear enclosure was completed in 2018 following the previous enclosures. Here, an 18 m long underwater tunnel leads through the 3.70 m deep water basin.
