Greatly looking forward to visiting when, eventually, it opens. It's only about an hour or less from where I live. I checked out the webpage yesterday, but still no date seems to have been set for its opening.
Was also pleasantly surprised when I saw it - they also have Philippine Spotted Deer (Alfred's for the ones who prefer to call them that ).
Further arrivals have included: 0.0.4 Straw Necked Ibis and 0.1 Lowland Anoa, both from Jardin de Plantes (Shorelands now have 0.2 Anoa) Azara's Agouti from Edinburgh
Plus plenty of other species which they haven't yet annouced on facebook, but they will be over the next few months!
Just welcomed three Darwin's rhea from Zlín Zoo (Czech Republic) and are due some eastern white pelicans on Monday (9th Dec) from Burgers Zoo (Netherlands).
Another species that they have just revealed they now keep is Ground Cuscus. 1.0 arrived from Cotswolds during 2013
2.2 Black Eared Marmoset have arrived from Aqua Zoo, Friesland - plans are also being made to exchange some of these individuals later in the year for unrelated stock from the Czech Republic
Another new arrival from the Czech Republic, this time from Plzen Zoo, are a pair of Timor deer (Rusa timorensis).
Size wise the place will be a larger area than Bristol Zoo when everything is done, when I visited last year we were shown less than a quarter of the area they can use, because of the building work going on the rest of the site or species that were being held in quarantine at the time!
A male lowland anoa has recently arrived from Prague Zoo, joining the 2 (I believe) females currently there.
A lot has been going on at Shorelands, according to their Facebook page: - Baby white storks and seven demoiselle crane eggs transferred to Beauval Zoo - An adult demoiselle crane, a guan, two male African comb ducks and a female black-headed ibis transferred to Parc de Oiseaux - A female Southern screamer, 2:1 Northern helmeted curassow and 4 fertile helmeted curassow eggs arrived from Beauval Zoo- the first curassow egg has since hatched - 4:2 little pied cormorants and a female red-legged seriema arrived from Parc de Oiseaux
