Mandai holds 1.8 indian hog deer; 0.3 are at the Zoo and the rest at Night Safari. Not sure about their origin.

    Thanks for prompt feedback.
Question from my side: the hog deer in Zoo are off display, right?
Further question from my friend, any chance to know when hog deer was first time in WRS?
    Thanks again.

I think the 3 females are located at KidzWorld.
I do also remember when Bawean hog deer (Hyelaphus kuhlii) were part of the zoo's collection. Quite a unique species.

The 3 females are at the Zoo's Kidzworld, with the goats and a female Axis deer. Hog deer were displayed in the Zoo in the 80s if i'm not mistaken. The current population was probably founded when Night Safari opened in 1994.

About to visit in a couple of weeks! Can you see everything by walking around, or are some enclosures only visible from the tram ride?

A majority of the animals such as elephants, rhinos, hippos, lions, etc are only visible from the tram ride but there are a lot of stuff in the walking trails (the coloured paths)

@Nadchew_ The Tram ride species list really saddens me a lot. I hope they expand it in future and add a few other drive-thrus because I was really fond of them. Indian sambar, hog deer, thamin, all have now been displayed in moated exhibits. I wish they add an African drive-through enclosure, too.
Chiang-mai night safari has an outstanding one, with lots of free-ranging giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, Impala, nyala, Greater kudu, red lechwe and eland.

With Rainforest Wild Africa, a new park opening next year iirc going to take over a portion of the eastern side, they have less space. Even then, their hoofstock list is still great, hopefully gaur will return. Sambar, hog deer and thamin are still in the park

Good news for those wanting to see the Gaurs on display again. Development of a set of "finale" exhibits for the tram ride has started and I understand it will include one for the Gaurs, as well as Axis Deer and one of the male Asian Elephants. Construction will probably take a year or so.

Will the deer and elephants be mixed?

It seems like separate enclosures for the 3 species. Probably not a good idea to mix deer with a bull elephant.
