I visited SL today and made the following observations;-

Mandrills- AFAIK, I don't believe they have an adult male Mandrill. I didn't see the male 'Tomer' all day and I could see indoors as well as outdoors.

Giraffes- The 1.3 Antiquorum Giraffe were all together and did not have access to the 2.0 hybrids next door.

Rhinos- One of the young males 'Zimba' is due to leave soon. I'm not sure where he is going however he was separated from the main herd as were 'Mazungo' and 'Huubke' the two adult bulls.

Jaguars- The Amur Tiger interior exhibit has been dramatically improved. Although the elderly female is no longer held there, the improvements are very well in fact.

Tamarins/Foxes- The group of Fennec Fox have moved into the Sloth/Bettong enclosure in the Small Primate House. There is also 0.0.3 Saddle Back Tamarins held in the three identical enclosures near the Tapirs/Giant Otters.

Mongoose- 0.0.4 Banded Mongoose are now held with the single Yellow Mongoose at the top of the hill.

Antiquorums not mixed with hybrids. Blimey golley goodness for that!
I will be interesting to know where the hybrids may be shipped off to.
It is time for them to make way.

The young white rhino 'Zimba' was due to go to Manor House Wildlife Park in the summer . They now have 2 young males , one being 'Zamba' from Colchester . Not certain if their facilities are sufficient to house 3 rhinos ?

Giraffes- I was also quite surprised not to see them all together as I did on my previous visit around about this time last year. I was also surprised and happy when I saw the male 'Dayo' trying to mate with one of the females however they moved out of view so I couldn't see if they mated.

Rhinos- I believe 'Zimba' will not be moved to Manor House but elsewhere. From what I was told he will be moved before the end of the year.

Tamarins- It is great news that I saw the three, it was a life tick for me, the only one I got at South Lakes yesterday, I just hope the Tayra go on-show soon.

This is assuming the Tayra are actually still *alive* :p

I'm a little annoyed that South Lakes have saddle-back tamarins, because if that is true I actually have a reason to visit there again ;) something I'd rather not do!

Don't know if it has already been mentioned on here but it appears that Kadi, the Sumatran tiger, will be leaving (or has already left) rather than her parents. This has been mentioned on the South Lakes Facebook page and the site also suggests there will be a some new arrivals soon, including another cat.

Would appear that the new big cat arrival is in fact a male Snow Leopard named Wolfgang arriving from a as yet unknown park in Austria. With a female due to arrive from Finland in the near future.

Was not expecting that!!! They will need to get on with their expansion plans soon to provide enough space for all the different cats.

Some more new species that have arrived along with the snow leopards are 12 species of pheasant, including eared and monal pheasants and satyr and Temminck's tragopans. Also there are going to be new imports from South America due to arrive very soon (maybe the tayra?)
