I follow dr. Haroldo on instagram. My bad I haven't been checking his account lately. I watched the arrival of the giraffes, but they didn't show them actually leaving the airplane... I agree with you they are much probably gonna reveal the animals when they are in the definitive exhibition. I'm wondering where these giraffes are at the moment... Maybe the bioparque built a special enclosure in the quarantine area to hold them...

You mean that one in the african savanna itself? In front of the giraffe house?

I believe that if the giraffes were there, the guests would obviously be able to see them, and there would be pictures of them on google maps already. My guess is that they are either being kept inside the giraffe house, wich is, in my opinion, big enough to hold three individuals for some days, or in some other exhibit in the non renovated area. This second option is the least likely, but it could be...

Hi, David. They're not at the zoo but in Mangaratiba. All of the giraffes which came from South Africa are quarantined there. My guesses were correct, as I already knew about Portobello Resort's plans.

I once again forgot about Julieta, the wild blue-and-yellow macaw (Ara ararauna, arara-canindé), which is the last of her kind in Rio de Janeiro.

This is a very nice updated list. Great to know about the new changes.
About the giraffes, it's good to know they are being kept in Mangaratiba, but isn't it a big way until there? I mean, is it really worth it to take them there to bring them all the way back? I'm assuming they are doing so because they have no other options at all, right?

Mangaratiba is not so far from Rio, but I agree it would be a long ride for the giraffes. Since they had no option of where to put these animals, I'd say it'd be worth it to take them to Portobello Resort, before actually bringing them to Rio.

Yeah, it's not so far, but for giraffes, it's quite a big distance, specially talking about all the jungle area between the two cities. Not saying it will be an obstacle, but it's surely a difficult transport. Anyway, the zoo must know what they're doing... I think I'll have to return to Rio next year to see the giraffes and other animals that might arrive to the savanna. Do you know if they are going to remove the fence that separates the area in two paddocks?

I'm not sure, but I bet they will, especially with the new bunch of animals coming in the next months.

Note: Exhibit 9 is divided into two sections: the first one is the house of adult broad-snouted caimans (Caiman latirostris, jacaré-do-papo-amarelo). The second one holds their youngster, as well as smooth-fronted caimans (Paleosuchus trigonatus, jacaré-coroa). Both areas hold turtles, but with no distinction between species.

I might have to remove the softshell turtle (Trionychidae sp., tartaruga-de-casco-mole) from the on-show list, as I don't remember seeing it on my last visit. However, I have concluded that the said animal is a Florida softshell turtle (Apalone ferox, tartaruga-americana-de-casco-mole).

i still don't know why did they removed the lear's macaws and replaced with the king vulture and this include the capuchin monkeys, i thought they were going to have a big renovation in the non renovated area and build new enclosures to the harpy eagles, hornbills, hawks and king vultures which andré told me about that, and about the unsure species, i think their project of having rhinos in the future might happen. about the baboons, i don't need to worry about this, because david told me they have plans to expose the baboons.

I think the holding of vultures in the lear's macaw exhibit is temporary. I'm confident they will return. I think when the other part of the zoo gets to be renovated, the vultures will have a place there. About the baboons, yeah, a biologist of the zoo told me in my visit that they are gonna have a place in the next steps of the renovation.
