Just stumbled upon this interesting film of a long lost collection, which also includes footage of the Stapleford Miniature Railway and the fantastic scaled down ocean liners. Subscribe to read | Financial Times
Great thanks - could the moderators move it so the 'closed zoo, material is all together? Interesting on 2 points - * not far north of us at Melton Mowbray. I'm not sure it lasted long (?), not long enough to be on my radar, but Safari Parks never really interested me.. * the miniature railway was run (and the rolling stock and track owned) by an outside enthusiasts group, who approached us to take it on after Stapleford closed. Its planned route is shown in the original grey Hamerton guide-book with the Common Marmoset on the cover. The railway never happened of course, as the group pulled out of the plans.
The railway is still on site at Stapleford, although it covers a slightly different route now, to what it did when it was a safari park. It even has a limited number of open days for those interested.
Yes - that fits with what we were able to find out at the time. A better 'offer' to leave it where it was, I guess...
