Hello, I am a student in Biology and I am curently in practice in the wildlife park of Sainte Croix in Moselle ( North East of France). My problematics deal with wild red squirrel ( Sciurus vulgaris). Currently the park presents two aviaries with captive red squirrel. But we would like to remove these aviaries keeping this species visible to the public in order to keep making the public aware of their protection. I would like to know, if some of you have wild redsquirrel in your park. In this case, how do you "attract" them? Have you improved their way of living? How di you do to make them more visible? What method have you used for that? Have you used some strategies thanks to food or other instalations? Obviously we try to respect as possible as the natural balance of the biotop and do not make the squirrels dependant of men. I thank you in avance for you help, I looking forward to having from you soon. Best regards Ayala LOISEL
In the Netherlands, Gaiapark at Kerkrade once hold the red squirrel, visible for the public. Maybe you can inform there.
