News on WWF and reports of human rights abuses such as torture, killings and disappearances of civilian and indigenous peoples in the Cameroon, Central African Republic and the Congo:
Thank you for sharing this news with us. I am disappointed to learn of this. This is really upsetting and really hard to hear...
No problem, yes, its not great news to learn about. I think it often can be shocking for people to discover these sorts of things because we grow up thinking of WWF as the most visible and iconic of the conservation NGOs out there ostensibly saving wildlife and these revelations about the organization and its activities go against the public image that they have cultivated globally. I've been hearing about this kind of thing going on with WWF for decades now across many parts of Africa and India so it doesn't really come as a suprise for me now though I remember that when I first learned of this it did really shock me too. I should mention that there is a great book on this side of WWF that I highly recommend as it is very well researched and written called "Panda leaks".
Trust Vice to not give credit to Buzzfeed They are the ones who broke the story in 2019. Here's the original investigation: WWF Funds Guards Who Have Tortured And Killed People A few follow ups: A Leaked Report Shows WWF Was Warned Years Ago Of “Frightening” Abuses WWF Says Indigenous People Want This Park. An Internal Report Says Some Fear Forest Ranger “Repression.” Leaked Report: WWF-Backed Guards Raped Pregnant Women And Tortured Villagers At A Wildlife Park Funded By The US Government All of the articles: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/collection/wwfsecretwar
Thanks for sharing @TinoPup ! Will have a read of some of these, this is very disturbing stuff indeed.
Thank you for sharing your views on this topic @Pantheraman ! Yes, that is pretty much my stance on WWF too, with every new revelation about what they have been involved in I am more and more cynical and disgusted.
