Giant Otter-shrew (Potamogale velox)

The range of this species extends throughout the Congo Basin, from the extreme southeast of Nigeria, east to western Uganda and south to northern Angola, southern DRC and northwest Zambia; a disjunct population exists in the Kakamega Forest of southwest Kenya.

Monotypic.

@LaughingDove has - I don't think @TeaLovingDave likes using taxidermy specimens in his threads though.

 

There is indeed a photograph of the mount in question within the gallery, but as I prefer to avoid taxidermy specimens in these threads (and it is horrifically faded, given the living animal is dark brown and the taxidermy specimen is pale blonde) I chose to omit it

The range of this species is restricted to Ingwavuma and Ubombo in eastern South Africa.

The range of this species is restricted to the southern cape coastline of South Africa.

Known only from the type specimen, a partially-digested owl pellet collected in southern Somalia.

Endemic to northeast South Africa.

Known only from three widely-separated localities in northeast South Africa.

The range of this species extends through the highlands of eastern Zimbabwe and adjacent western Mozambique.

The range of this species extends across much of South Africa in a broken, fragmented distribution.
