Whale Sharks in Captivity in China So, recently I discovered Dalian Ocean Park now has added whale sharks to their collection, aswell as Polar Ocean World. My main concern is, the size of the tanks they are keeping them in! Lets remember, these whale sharks are just babies now, but the aquarium theyre in looks like a concrete room with pillars??? and fish painted onto the walls?? Not quite sure what the plan is when they grow, one of the tanks is 350,000 gallons..... Photos + story of each facility are here: Whale shark, aquarium's mammoth newcomer So How Would One Transport the World's Largest Fish?: Photo 14 of 14 | scoop, fish, Whale Sharks | PetSugar - Dogs, Cats, and Other Pets Small hexagon shaped tank with large underwater viewing station Small tank with pillars in the tank? Surely thats not great for the whale sharks? I fear the recent successes in Georgia and several in Japan have made Chinese Aquariums rush into capturing the whale sharks for display, when theyre not too sure on their requirements? If anyone has any more info or opinions, please share!
Seems to be quite a few places trying Whale sharks, Ive just posted another thread on one in Dubai http://www.zoochat.com/2/x-factor-109346/
AND, I just found this: Guangzhou's new whale shark a jaws-dropping sight The whale shark looks half dead...doubt it's still alive! Really sad. Yeah, Atlantis in Dubai have a juvenille, however their aquarium is alot more specialised for larger sharks...unlike these chinese ones!
