If you had to work with animals, what animals would you like to work with? I'd also like to know if you'd like to work in a public zoo, a private collection, a rescue, a rehab center, aquarium, or some other facility. Personally, I'd like to work with primates in a public zoo (or possibly private). I'd, ideally, like to work a whole primate building (something like Milwaukee Zoo's primate building) so I can work with several primates instead of one species. (But, if I had to only work with gorillas, I would.) If I couldn't work with primates, I'd like to work with carnivores (specifically Spotted Hyenas, African Wild Dogs, or large cats) or Ungulates (Rhinos, Tapirs, Elephants, Hippos).
Well, of animals I've worked with in the past, beaver, American Badger, Gray Fox, Crested Caracara, Burrowing Owl, kookaburra, and turacos have been particular favorites. In more of a response to your question, I'd love to work in a zoo with big free-flight aviaries, like Scripps and Owens at San Diego, Wings of Asia at Miami, or the DWA's multilevel ones. I love tracking down as many of the species as I can, and birds have always been a favorite. As a second, probably hoofstock like duiker, kudu, bongo, zebra, tapir and okapi. Also Giant Anteater.
I would love to work at a large zoo with a large aviary and a cool bird collection. I would love to work with a lot of different bird species.
Whoa, ducks can be fantastic animals to work with! They are smelly and messy, but then again most zoo animals are.
I would work in a public zoo, and I would like to work with elephants, red pandas, bears, giant anteaters, okapis, babirusas, tapirs, manatees and a few others.
I'd work in a public zoo, and the animals that I would like to work with in order would be elephants, reptiles, carnivorans, and ungulates.
Couldn't agree less, got my first ducks in 1967, still keeping waterfowl, currently have ten species.
I've got axolotls and a crested gecko right now, so I've got reptiles and amphibians that I get to work with daily, but I don't know if I'd want to work with them all the time. (But I do truly love both of those categories of animals and I'd love to have more as pets in the future.) Also, going back to the smelly animals, I've heard otters smell really bad. (I have such a terrible sense of smell that nothing bothers me, makes zoo visits amazing.)
I've never been bothered by the smell of otters (but then again, I love the smells of penguins and Binturongs). However, I can't stand the smell of tamarins/marmosets. If you can't smell Henry Vilas Zoo's tropical house, you'r lucky.
I can smell the last room in HVZ's tropical house with the Geoffroy's, it stinks. They've got to get better ventilation in there. (Also, apparently, HVZ has a sloth underneath the bridge in there. They should really put it on exhibit.)
Well I've never been bother by the smell of any animal, considering I have congenital anosmia (i.e. I was born without a sense of smell)
I would like to work with primates. They are intelligent, cheeky and interactive creautures that would be so enriching to work with!
