Easy question: what's the weirdest animal for you?

It may be strange, but for me it's a Binturong.
It looks so creepy to me! I always get scared when I see one :).
The tail, face, lots of hair....

...and that's only touching the surface in terms of odd parasites, fish, amphibians...

Of mammals, mine are aardvarks and pangolins.

The aardvark looks like a crossing of a pig, a kangaroo, a rabbit and an anteater.

The pangolin and it's completely interlocking scales are both amazing and bizzare. I just saw one for the first in Leipzig Zoo last week, and was completely fascinated.

There are so many! I think the strangest I have ever seen is a solenodon - a very strange creature with a strange way of moving. But I might change my mind if I ever see a platypus or a colugo (flying lemur) or a moloch (thorny devil)

Aye-ayes are pretty damn weird. They look a good part rodent, with a hint of cat or raccoon, depsite the fact its a primate.

I saw a solenodon at Frankfurt in 1973: I can't remember which species and I haven't got a reference book at hand to look it up. But I can remember how weird it was :D

    I'll agree with that.

Not to mention the creepy movement and an almost 'shocked' look on their faces ;)

I think they always look shocked in photos because of the camera flash!

    I've seen a & c but not b- just boasting...;)

For me the weirdest would have to be the Naked Mole Rat- not only their appearance but also lifestyle/behaviour- what bizarre creatures.

OMG Aye-ayes are just CREEPY ! Another specie I've never heard of. Now I think a Binturong is not that creepy at all anymore after seeing Aye-Ayes or Solenodons :). Anyway, sometimes nature can be weird and not explainable.

it was a Hispaniolan solenodon. Frankfurt had a pair, the female died in August 1973, the male (named Soli) in December 1973. They were the last ones in Europe. Apparently Soli was very friendly and liked climbing into peoples' laps and sticking his nose in their ears!

The weirdest animal for me is the Aye-Aye, the Marabou stork, and for some reason the Mara. I just don't like the way the Mara looks like.

I love maras and if i had a zoo it would have them free range. Mine would have to be blind snakes, I've seen three in my life and everytime they have creeped me out. The first time dad was moving some dirt and dug two up at the same time and showed me when he got home and the second time we were digging stump holes for our extension and i found one.

For me it would have to be the echidna--all kinds of weird physiological things going on. Don't get me wrong--I love working with them!

I've always found snub-nosed monkeys to be ever so slightly surreal... I can't explain why. Especially the Golden snub-nose (Rhinopithecus roxellana) - a thoroughly strange-looking chap!

This is slight pimpage, I must admit, but I have an Obscure Animals group on Facebook (note - obscure, not explicitly weird or rare)... http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=9359452715#/group.php?gid=9359452715

I think that they look like Michael Jackson.
