Which Zoo Has the Most...?

Here's one:
Which zoo has the largest collection of rare species (species that are rarer in captivity)? I know Cincinnati has quite a few and so does San Diego and Bronx but are there any with really huge numbers?

What constitutes "rare"? Species that can be seen in less than 10 collections? 15 collections? 5?

 

I'd say less than 10-15 institutions.

Plzen Zoo, Prague Zoo, Berlin Zoo, Berlin Tierpark, Okinawa Aquarium, Monterrey Bay Aquarium, Lisbon Oceanarium, Aquario Vasco da Gama, Walsrode Bird Park, Jurong Bird Park, Taronga Zoo, Melbourne Zoo, ASDM and many other small zoos and wildilfe parks.

 

Afther learning that Ermerald Forest is a public collection I guess I have to replace Dallas World Aquarium as having the largest collection of Toucans and aracaris by Ermerald Forset.

 

Which one is this for? And list the species at each.

I'm not an expert of all the rarities so I probably won't recognize many of them as being rare in captivity, that's why I ask for a list of which rarities at each zoo. I could make ones for Bronx and Cincinnait if you guys want. Being as I haven't visited Cincy yet, Moebelle or Kudu could do a much better job than I for that zoo.

"Rarities" is a broad term. What may be rare in U.S. collections might be plentiful in European zoos. While Australia may have their wonderful collection of animals, they might consider some species doing well in U.S. collections rarities in Oz.

 

That's very true. Well let's do it country by country. What has species rare in their country (in Europe I guess the continent since all the countried always seem to be grouped together zoo-wise) even if it's common in another country.

In NZ almost every species is rare. Probably 90% of exotic (non-domestic) species are held in fewer than 5 zoos, and 30% would be held at only one zoo. Similar situation in Australia, although not as extreme (maybe 65% of exotics held in less than 10 zoos).

 

A culpatta (corsica,france) has 65 turtle/tortoise species

 

Deyoung Family Zoo has 4 different species of macaque(pigtail, bonnet, sulawesi crested, and japanese)

 

Japan´s Monkey Centre has 12: Stump-Tailed, Taiwan Rock, Crab-Eating, Japanese, Yakushima, Rhesus, Pig-Tailed, Bonnet, Lion-Tailed, Toque, Barbary and Tibetan, being the one with the most.

Russia´s Monkey Nursery has 6 (Assam, Moor, Barbary, Crab-Eating, Bear and Pig-Tailed) and i believe that there are zoos with more.
