We visited today and all of the females and youngsters were in together - so I think the above situation must have changed.

Last year I saw the entire group including the bull in the yard by the old house apart from 8 year old George who was connecting with his father through the bars

TBH I think I've seen them altogether on a number of occasions - but I definitely did today :)

I'm sorry to hear that, as they are a long established herd at Whipsnade. Perhaps regarded as not 'rare' enough for nowadays, but they have sizeable herds of other non-endangered species such as Hog and Fallow Deer also. Why have the Axis been singled out I wonder, and what new species they might get in time.

Indeed; I think that there have been axis deer continuously at Whipsnade since the park opened in 1931 so it is sad the species is leaving the collection after all these years. However, there hasn't been a male there for a couple of years so perhaps it is no surprise that they are going.

I would be very interested to learn what new species are planned for that exhibit.

For those with long memories, The Spotted Pig has reopened as a catering facility for ZSL staff and volunteers.

The father of Donna's (currently unborn) calf is the Woburn bull.

It is the name of a character from George R. R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' / HBO's Game of Thrones.
