After reviewing numbers on the first day of reopening, Woburn will be increasing the number of daily tickets available for the rest of the week

Lioness Dakota gave birth to 5 cubs on 24th April. They have now been sexed as 4:1

We went to woeburn a week ago and 5x we did the drive through safari and not once did we see a zebra so I did wonder myself, as they were usually kept close to the giraffe but this time no sign

I wondered that but I don’t think woeburn are that concerned by it! They seem content with their herd and a very compliant male, so expanding the herd isn’t a priority

I had read a few years ago that they wanted to form a breeding herd and expand it, also I believe that was the main reason they built the new elephant barn!

They once had a pretty large herd of chapman’s zebra, 6 or more with the rhinos/elands, however last time I was there, there were only 2 individuals kept in separate paddock with a pair of scimitar horned oryx (not the main herd of this species, seemed surplus) just before the safari park entrance. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’d gone/died out because I believe they’re concentrating on the grévy’s zebra. The grévy’s are kept next to/with the giraffe, and I believe they’re housed in the ‘African Ungulate Conservation Centre’ along with species like Addax/Bongo etc. The chapman’s have never been held in the conservation centre or the giraffe paddock which the grévy’s were in last time, with scimitars.

Just back from a very wet but enjoyable day at Woburn.
Felt it was very busy almost like a normal day but well managed.
The bear cubs are in an enclosure to the right as you drive in but are very hard to see.
The lion cubs are also in an enclosure with mum, we only saw 4 lion cubs though.
Lots of work going on at the foot safari with the penguins moved to the sealion outdoor area and the sealions kept indoors.
    Only saw 1 red panda.

Had a feeling it would be sad news.
At least the other 4 looked very healthy and enjoying life.

Does anyone know what happened to Kamara the other lioness from the 2014 litter ? I’m assuming she’s passed away. I found it a bit odd that they used a 14 year old lioness to breed ( Dakota ) and realised she’s no longer in the pride.

Sad news announced on social media that Acacia the Rothschild giraffe has sadly passed away aged 21 after her age caught up with her.
She arrived from Edinburgh zoo in October 2000
