In the May 2019 issue of National Geographic, there is a long article about Mozambique's Gorongosa National Park. There is no mention of Zoo Boise in the article, but nevertheless it makes for an interesting read and sheds light on the conservation initiatives that are ongoing in the park.

I think it's very interesting and exciting that they have striped hyenas, especially in a new exhibit! I feel as though striped hyenas are rather rare in U.S. zoos.
The zoo had them prior, so they incorporated them into this new exhibit. The zoo is phasing the species out though, so once they pass away they will be replaced with spotted hyena.
This is the zoos new map featuring the 2 complexes that opened this year. For a small zoo the African animal collection is outstanding.
Does the zoo still have black mangabeys or Visayan warty pigs? They are not listed on the map or the zoo's website.
I think that's a fantastic species list that really showcases a diversity of African fauna rather than just focusing on a few popular species. Has anyone visited this new exhibit complex yet? If so, what are their thoughts?
Sand cats arriving; Small Animal Kingdom reopens: Zoo Boise now has sand cats, reopens Small Animal Kingdom Zoo Boise made two announcements this morning. The Zoo is welcoming a new member to the family and reopening the Small Animal Kingdom. A new female Sand Cat, named Nala, is coming to Zoo Boise from the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City. The zoo expects to add a male sand cat, named Simba, soon. Simba will be coming from the Living Desert in Palm Springs.
