    Gorilla Forest
    This exhibit area is on the African Forest trail, and features animals that would live in the Congo Rainforest. The Gorilla exhibit is one of the largest exhibits at the zoo, and is home to 12 gorillas.

    Animals and Exhibits in This Area:

    • Large Yard with Climbing Structures: Mandrill, Red River Hog
    • Small Forested Yard: Yellow Backed Duiker
    • Extremely Large Yard: Western Lowland Gorilla
    • Small Forested Yard: Red River Hog
    • Large Forested Yard: Common Chimpanzee

    I'm working on making an Asian Forest area of the zoo, which would include Javan Leopards.

    I don't know why but I just have this feeling that you like leopards. I mean I could be wrong but I just have an inkling.

    This area of the zoo is slightly newer, and features several of the zoo's most popular exhibits. These include the Asian Aviary, the Bird House (Similar to the Saint Louis Zoo's Bird House), the African Aviary, the Penguin Habitat, and the Seabird Aviary.
    This area also includes the Bird Theater, where zookeepers let birds fly through the seating area, over people's heads. The zookeepers also talk about bird conservation, and how you can protect the most endangered ones, like Hyacinth Macaws.

    This exhibit complex opened in January 2019, and features some of Australia's strangest species, like the Platypus and the Tree Kangaroo. It features a Nocturnal House along with a walkthrough Wallaroo exhibit.

    Condor Conservation Center (Not Public)
    This off-exhibit complex consists of four large connected aviaries home to 10 California Condors. The aviaries are not directly viewable to the public, but you can still see them at a distance from the Sky Safari and Gorilla Forest.

    I've just realised something. Are you the zoochatter who made the comprehensive lists of the San Diego zoo species? If so, thank you sooooooooooooooooo much! It helped me a lot when determining which animals to put in my own zoo and also helped me to plan my trip to San Diego.

    Yep; Oakland Zoo Complete Species List. Have you done your San Diego trip yet? Or is it still in planning?

    I haven't because of numerous trips that have got in the way. I plan the family's trips and I still can't find a place to fit it in without making it just for the zoo

    Asian Forest
    This area of the zoo will open April 1, 2019. It will connect to the orangutan pathway in the Historic section of the zoo. It will feature some of Asia's most endangered species. It features an overhead walkway for Javan Leopards.

    • Large Enclosure: Lion Tailed Macaque
