Shocking news out of Granby. A keeper has been mauled by a lion. The female employee has serious injuries but should pull through. Another employee saved her. The details don't seem to be clear yet but somehow she and the lion ended up in the same space. It seems more shocking when you consider two of the lions are siblings from Bowmanville and are very used to being in the same physical space as their keepers. If it was one of them it seems more peculiar. Hopefully the employee makes a full recovery. The lion that attacked the staff member was 14 year old Kao who was born in Granby. Makes more sense to me then the younger hand reared people oriented Bowmanville siblings. The staff member is expected to make a full recovery and Kao will not be harmed. The investigation continues. Lion that bit worker in Canada zoo is spared, back on view | Canada | Reuters
Out of curiosity, why is there only 1 photo in the gallery? Also, will they get more elephants to try and make a bigger herd?
I think there are not a lot of photos in the gallery because most of the Canadian zoo chat members are from Ontario. There are some out west too but I think there may be an absence of people from Quebec who could provide photos. I don't know what their plan is for the herd. They have an old cow and a young bull. They could just be using the male to act as a companion with plans to ship him south for breeding once she goes. I would think if they had breeding plans they would have got more of them to start with.

The zoo will be receiving gorillas, Nassir and Sadiki, from Toronto. They will not be living with Jawara and Zwalani just yet.
