This article on the birth includes an impressive fact: VIDEO: Zoo unveils spotted baby tapir who snuggles close to mom In the last decade, three Malayan tapirs, named Baru, Kedua and Ketiga, were born at the zoo and later reintroduced into the wild as part of a conservation program. Hopefully this young male will follow in their footsteps if not needed within the captive breeding programme.
@Zoofan15 This information is wrong, the three males are living and breeding in european Zoos, Zlin Lesna (Baru), CERZA Lisieux (Kedua) and Rotterdam (Ketiga), not in the wild.
Unfortunately the tapir boy died this night. The last three offspring of the brace died from a brain destruction/infection triggered by a unicellular. This is propably the end of the Malayan tapir breeding in Leipzig with the current brace.
