Thanks so much! Abamboo is Kibonge, I've since discovered. I'm still checking to see if he's been sent elsewhere.

The black male jaguar Danny has died recently, due to knotted bowels. The zoo will try to source a new male for female Yuna.

An Indian sloth bear was born on 22nd of Dec to local breeding pair (Druva and Saraswathi), sex unknown.

Danny came from Hodonin zoo in May 2022. But he was born in Zoo Skaerup and only waited in Hodonin since autumn 2021 for Zlin to complete construction of their new jaguar enclosure.

    Attendance for year 2022 was record-breaking - 798.000.

Zlin is solid no. 2 zoo in the country, behind Prague (1400k) and before Dvur Kralove (670k). The gradual growth in visitors number creates obvious difiiculties, visitor amenities and viewing capacity at popular exhbits get stretched past comfortable limit at sunny days. However, this is a nice problem to have I guess?

Opening date of new exhibit, the long time ago announced new large aviary for African vultures, has been pushed into future and now it sounds just "in summer holiday season".

In published overview of youngsters that were born /hatched in 2022 are also Australian pelicans. I might be wrong, but I think this is the first breeding of this species in Czechia, ever.

And, they have 3 surviving chicks of capuchin bird, not only the 2 I mentioned earlier in this thread.

This was in fact first Czech breeding and this year Zlin repeated it with 2 more chicks being hatched + 1 Spot-billed pelican

The zoo expects arrival of African elephant bull Jack in May this year.

From France, a male black jaguar should arrive in summer.

An Angolan lioness is due to arrive soon, to be paired with lion Abamboo.

Male Amur tiger Youri (12) arrived and had been paired with cat Samba (4).

I visited Zlín last month, and was very disappointed to see no signs of life at all in either the seriema or the northern screamer exhibit. Have they been temporarily moved offshow??

Zlin has a large portion of the bird collection off-show in the colder months, they should be put back on exhibit around now...

Another Indian Great Hornbill chick hatched on 1 Feb and has been successfully reared. It stayed with its mother in nesting box as usual for the species. But keepers trained the breeding pair to tolerate their frequent visits in the enclosure where they would remove the chick, feed it, weight it and quickly return back on daily basis.

Great result with a species not doing very well in Europe ! I had the luck to raise a number of chicks while working with the species at Weltvogelpark Walsrode but this was ways back in the 1980s. A good breeding-pair can raise sometimes a good number of young year after year but the number of such pairs is ways to small to keep the number of this species stable in Europe :(. Hopefully the pair at Zlin will be succesful for a lot of years to come.

Intended Species mentioned for Gora Ark aviary by Zlin zoo:

    griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus)
    Rueppell's griffon vulture (Gyps rueppelli)
    Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus)
    hooded vulture (Necrosyrtes monachus)
    white-headed vulture (Trigonoceps occipitalis)
    secretary bird (Sagittarius serpentarius)
Kuhl's brown-necked parrot (Poicephalus fuscicollis fuscicollis)
    black-casqued hornbill (Cetarogymna atrata)
    multiple turaco species

The zoo usually doesnt issue exhaustive list in case of new mixed aviaries so that there is some degree of surprise for visitors. We can maybe expect a few more species.

The zoo hasnt even started with construction of that part of karibuni where their exhibit is planned.

What will happen sooner a) the exhibit is finished and aardwolves go on show b) the animals die of old age backstage.

The animals are on show in the former wattled crane enclosure, but are very shy and for the time being they share only small enclosed part of the outside enclosure. There is window which allowed to see them in their inside den though
