82 S. American Fur Seal - Arctocephalus australis

No idea where the next one will come from, not a lot left in the UK to get, places I haven't been to this year where I might add a few are either closed (Axe Valley), unsuitable (Port Lympne), or too far away (Exmoor, Shaldon) for me to visit in December!

By visiting Landgoed Hoenderdaell I had hoped to add 1 more species to the 2018-list because I knew they are the only public collection with Cougars in the Netherlands but it even came better. A second species - not mentioned on Zootierliste - is also kept and I was able to see it so I can add 2 new species to the list :
    66 ) Cougar - Puma concolor ( see Cougar | ZooChat )
    67 ) Red fox - Vulpes vulpes ( see Red fox | ZooChat )

I'd have liked to have hit the 100, but despite picking up a few unexpected and/or unplanned species here and there, there were just enough no-shows, species going off-display and collections being dropped from my plans to prevent this eventuality.

On the upside..... I FINALLY have seen American Mink.

Are Bronx's spotted skunks Eastern or Western, by the way?

Bronx always labeled them as Eastern but it turned out they are Western and the sign simply says "spotted skunk" now. There's only one left I think.

American Minks are rare. This surprises me. I guess it must be one of those animals that's just locally common in WI (just like American Badgers).

They aren't rare, just very elusive - for instance, until I saw the American Mink at Five Sisters I had never seen one myself despite the species being common and invasive in the United Kingdom :p

I'm somewhat disappointed with my tally this year - Many of the zoos visited (not featured on the list) held species I had seen before, there were many no shows, and I was not able to visit enough zoos!

That said, here is my full 2018 ZooChat Carnivora Challenge list:
