Sorry for the delay, but here's my list from:

    Zoo Antwerpen

    12. Mission Golden-Eyed Tree Frog, Trachycephalus resinifictrix
    13. Oriental Fire-Bellied Toad, Bombina orientalis
    14. Aquatic caecilian, Typhlonectes natans
    15. Kaiser's Spotted Newt, Neurergus kaiseri

    And Burgers' Zoo

Highlight is definately my very first caecilian. They are just so weird but fascinating. Kaiser's Spotted Newt was also very high on my wish-list, so I'm glad I've seen that stunning species too.

You may think you have taken the lead. You may think you are safe in your victory. But you do not know how wrong you are. ;)

I have visited two zoos since I last updated my total, and not one kept any amphibians. Until this challenge came around, I never realized how underrepresented this group is in captivity.

Neither zoo had any island endemics that weren't already on my list, either. :(:p

That was part of the goal of this challenge really. I have to say, though, I've come across a lot more diversity in my travels this year than I was expecting.

Yesterday I went to Amersfoort and had there several highlights but also some disapointments.
First I went to an aquarium-shop and found there 1 single amphiabian-species - however a possible Lifer ! If I should believe Zootierliste there is not a single zoo I've visited keeping it in the time of my visits and maybe I have seen it before in the trade but that would then be more then 30 years ago and to be honest, I can't remember ever having seen it. The species I saw was the Sabana surinam toad ( Pipa parva ) and because there was sofar only a single photo of this species in our Gallary I have added 2 more ( in the Netherlands - other Gallery )

    20190525_105503 sabana surinam frog - pipa parva.jpg

For the Challenge it of course doesn't count but evenso I was very happy with this beginning of the day ( next to this toad I had - I guess - 20 - 30 - more lifers at this shop, mainly fish.
Then I went to the Zoo ( Dierenpark ) and had hoped to see at least 5 species new for the Challenge and thus went to the 100.000 dieren huis ( = 100-000 animals house ). Next to the 2 species I can add, I had hoped to see the Himalayan newt - Tylototriton verrucosus and a still unidentified frog-species ( "Bamboo frog") but found their enclose was become home to a new species - the Crocodile-tailed lizard. A nice species but not for this Challenge.... :(.
Then I went to the Norturnal House because here Kaiser's spotted newt ( would be new for my Challenge ) and Ticitaca water frogs ( already seen this year but behind the scenes at Rotterdam Zoo where they didn't counted ). In front of the Nocturnal House I however found this sign :

20190525_125713Temporarily closure of the Nocturnal House.jpg

( meaning " "The Night" is being renovated. From mid-June you can see our nocturnal animals again" ).
The only other amphibian species kept at Amersfoort is the Natterjack toad and I indeed saw it but had already seen it before this year at another collection.
Altogether just only 2 new species for the Challenge :

    26 - Golden mantella - Mantella aurantiaca

    IMG_4978 golden mantella - Mantella aurantiaca.jpg

    27 - Oriental fire-bellied newt - Hypselotriton orientalis :

I missed about three species between all of the collections, which isn't bad going at all. I'm not sure how many more additions I'll make for the rest of the year, however, seeing as I do not have any more trips planned. I was hoping to crack 100 but barring any spontaneous visits for somewhere like Smithsonian I don't think that's going to happen.

Catching up with some old book keeping. After Japan I visited several significant collections in North-east China but all bar Beijing had no amphibians on-show. The last few months have seen almost no visiting, a trend that will continue until August when I get to Europe, since I don't expect much from North-west China in July.

    33. Phyllobates terribilis - Golden poison frog

    Beijing Zoo - 17/2/19

    36. Polypedates megacephalus - Spot-legged tree frog
    37. Bufo gargarizans - Asiatic toad
    38. Ambystoma mavortium - Western tiger salamander
    39. Cynops orientalis - Oriental fire-bellied newt
    40. Andrias davidianus - Chinese giant salamander
    41. Rana calesbieana - American bullfrog
    42. Xenopus laevis - African clawed frog

    Shanghai Zoo - 19/5/19

    44. Ambystoma tigrinium - Tiger salamander

    Actual as opposed to?

(Most of the xenopus I see in petshops here are dyed green or pink or other horrendous colours)

The latter is, kept in the exhibit above the Puerto Rican toad with unsigned Amazon milk frogs. It was also present in January, but I was unable to find it. The grey treefrog was in the children’s zoo - I don’t recall what the exhibit formerly held.
