What's the best way to see the Jackal, I've not seen it in many a visit? Not seen Cassowary or Raccoon for ages either so wouldn't take it personally.
Luck, in my experience - it's certainly easier to spot them away from the summer months, as the grass in their paddock is correspondingly shorter and less able to hide them.
As TLD has said, it is almost impossible to see Jackal when the grass is long in summer. Yesterday the grass and other vegetation were virtually nothing. I don't really have a 'best way', because this is the first time I've seen one in over a dozen visits, since I saw them on my first visit to Hamerton 6 years ago! I headed straight for their enclosure just after opening time and there was one wondering about on the slope. I saw one curled up asleep later on too.
Over the few years I've been going, I've only seen the Jackals a couple of time and they were in recent months. All I can say is those sightings were before midday, whereas I nearly always visited in the afternoons before. Scratch that, just checked the times on my photos and they are midday and early afternoon, so no help really
Yep, gonna have to take that one back, can't find any evidence for anything other than striated in my photos. No idea why I added it, I'll edit it out. Ed. Or not, can't edit it on the phone. I'll amend it when I make the next update.

At Paradise Wildlife Park 28/1/18 98 Raccoon 99 Yellow-backed Lory 100 Spectacled Owl 101 Leopard Gecko 102 Reticulated Python 103 Jaguar Another question I'm afraid! ZTL lists the zoo as holding Fischer's Lovebirds, but the Lovebirds are just labelled as Lovebirds.Do they count or not please ? Not a major issue either way though.
We were there 27/01 and had the same quandry - but the one's we saw definitely did not look like the picture in the book. Looked it up when we got home and the Paradise birds (as shown on the sign in the park) looked like peach faced lovebirds. Edit to say - but possibly thay have both?
Thanks, clearly shouldn't update this when I'm tired. Probably mixed up the days, though I don't have any pictures of them to jog my memory it must have been Cotswold where I saw them. If it turns out they aren't any at Cotswold then my memory obviously isn't what I think it is!

First trip of the year was Paradise Wildlife Park. As permy above post we've not counted the Lovebirds as not convinced they were the correct variety... Lar Gibbon Squirrel Monkey Ruffed Lemur Two-toed Sloth Bactrian Camel Reindeer Mara Grey Wolf Meerkat Red Panda Ocelot Snow Leopard Jaguar Lion Tiger Emu African / Jackass Penguin Spectacled Owl Eurasian Eagle Owl African (Congo) Grey Parrot Blue & Yellow Macaw Yellow-backed (Chattering) Lory Rainbow Lorikeet Anaconda Reticulated Python North American Raccoon Striped Skunk (Mr. Pink!) Regarding the lovebirds, they appear to have several species. Some photos on Tripadvisor show Peach-faced Lovebirds (and some which look like hybrids). This article says they obtained a colony of Nyasa Lovebirds in 2017 (and that they already had Black-cheeked Lovebirds): Lovebirds – New in Paradise - Paradise Park I suspect the "Fischer's Lovebirds" on ZTL are actually misidentified Nyasa Lovebirds. (EDIT: actually, is Paradise Park a different place to Paradise Wildlife Park?) (EDIT 2: okay so Paradise Park is in Cornwall. Why have two zoos with such similar names? That's just stupid. The photos I've seen from Paradise Wildlife Park are all Peach-faced Lovebirds or hybrids with what look like probably Masked Lovebirds).
Following further suggestions and as neither Zia or myself have counted them, perhaps better if the Lovebirds at PWP are not allowed? ZTL is hopelessly out of date for this zoo anyway! Pallas's cat,Puma, Siberian Lynx, Raccoon Dog, Coati all gone, just for a start!
