Zoo Wameru is close to Queretaro at 20 minutes and has a full compliment of wild animal species, both native and those from overseas with an emphasis on African species exhibits. It was opened to the public in 1995. Starting with some brand new zoo news on the Zoologico Wameru in Queretaro: the placement of 2 jaguars in July 2017. Two jaguars were rescued along with a white tiger cub by PROFEPA. Through the assistance of a combo of 4 zoos (Zoologico de Irapuato and Zoologico de Leon) the felids were eventually placed into two of the collaborating zoos. The white tiger cub was accepted into the zoo in Guanajato (while having spent the initial period of quarantine and medical exams / recovery at Irapuato) , whereas both jaguars were placed at the Zoo in Queretaro (=Zoo Wameru). The jaguars had previously been held temporarily at Zoo de Leon. The story on the initial integration of both jaguars can be read here: Link: http://www.eluniversalqueretaro.mx/nacion/09-07-2017/reubican-2-jaguares-en-zoologico-de-queretaro
