At the moment Zootierliste cannot be reached at all, there is probably some maintenance going on....

We currently have some problems with server. We're working hard to get the problems fixed, the zootierliste should be back on track within the next few days.

I had a similar issue for a few days about a month back but things are resolved now.

I was hoping for the maintenance to be ZTL finally adding on US collections:p

That will probably only happen when some Americans make it happen...

What do you mean? Make it happen as in create their own? I know ztl was thinking about adding US collections at one point several years ago but that plan seems to have drifted away unfortunately.

We have enough work to do with EAZA-collections. There won't be an AZA-version in the near future. We don't have the resources to keep an AZA-version up to date since we can't travel to those zoos every few years to check if our data is correct. Most US-zoos don't publish animal inventory lists, so we don't have correct references like in the ZTL now. Another problem is the legal obstacle. We know nothing about the copyright in the US. We don't want that someone takes proceedings against the ZTL when we publish the animal inventories. Just because it's legal in europe doesn't mean that it's legal in the US too. Even though we don't make any profit with the ZTL and want to make it available for as many interested people as possible.

Well my thinking when it comes to updating data is that Americans would need to do that themselves. Wouldn't imagine that aspect would be too difficult as it seems there are interested people on this side of the pond. However, I do understand all the other reasons. It's a shame, though, as it'd be nice to have our a database with ours having gone private.

    Thanks for clarifying the issue:)

I would love to have a american version too and im sure that there are many interested people that make entrys into the database. The point is that we don't want to give the american version complete out of our hands. We need the right persons that we can trust as administrators to make the version as successful as the current version. So many barriers that have to be crossed but maybe someday there'll be an AZA-version.

I understand that. Fingers crossed that you find those administrators and an American version gets made before too long.

I still can't get in. I wasn't planning on editing anything (although there are a couple of collections I could edit to be a lot more accurate), but I have something which I would like to post on the noticeboard.

I've also been unable to get on to zootierliste for the last few weeks, and I know from the chatroom that some other people have been having issues too.

    I also cannot gain access.

My user name and password are frequently rejected.

I tried to re-register only to be told that my user name and password are already in use. It is very puzzling.
