Already suggested, friend. Post #4 :)

It could be an asian subspecies of Pica pica maybe sericea or a subspecies of sericea depending on taxonomic changes. Or they could be using the American equivalent as a representative of the asian species. I personally would struggle to see a difference unless it was pointed out or had both species side by side.

To be honest, I entirely forgot they'd been split!

I google-searched Bronx Zoo and magpie and came up with these two photos:

They look extremely similar to a Black-billed Magpie but it looks like their might be a slight blue on the wing? Might be the sheen on the feathers but it can be seen in both of these photos.

I think the first photo may just be misidentified... unless there are two species called azure-winged magpies??? They both look similar to my photo...

all the birds in these photos (except in post #3) are either black-billed (American) or Eurasian magpies (I don't know how to tell the difference; I think the split was based on genetics and voice rather than any visual distinction). The Flickr one of the "azure-winged magpie" is a misidentification.

I've posted another picture in the Bronx Zoo gallery with a side view of this same bird; hopefully it helps with the identification.

I don't think it can be identified without hearing the call.

Or better yet, knowing its provenance. My guess would be that this would be a black-billed, just because nobody would have bothered going to Europe or Asia to collect that species when they were formerly considered conspecific.
