That's too bad about Paignton's animal.

Well at the very least the ones I've seen at both Cincinnati and Gladys Porter are listed as the nominate subspecies. That's as far as my confirmation goes, however.

The US population has always been listed as nominate by the zoos that keep them (with no non-ssp animals mixed in) so while I don’t have import specifics I suspect it is correct.

I’ve always thought that the third subspecies is still not recognised but I guess they are now. Are geladas in US zoos generic or are they one of the mentioned subspecies?

They'd be whatever Europe's are :p I'd be a bit surprised if the captive population wasn't founded by animals from one location but I have no idea where that'd be.

I did some googling and found a list of species and subspecies in zoos on a gibbon website. It's not current any more, but it seems to have been based on studbooks (or perhaps on ISIS or something along those lines). All American Mueller's were listed as being the nominate subspecies so I'll follow that. It seems like the American population was probably derived from just a few founders.

The last ones in Australia and New Zealand were also of the nominate subspecies apparently, and I know the last Australian one (Mary) is pictured in the Taronga gallery.

I'll have a look for a good photo later, and replace the one I have there now.

Not a great photo and it's quite distorted too, but I've uploaded a photo of a Gorontalo macaque: [IMG]

That's great thanks. Is that taken in Ragunan Zoo itself, or at the Schmutzer Primate Centre?

Thanks. I thought that's what it looked like, but also thought the species would be more likely in the Primate Centre than the zoo.

Do you have any photos of Moor Macaques perchance?

No, sorry. I've yet to see any. :)

Meantime here's a photo of some Siberut macaques from Taman Safari Indonesia for you: [IMG]

Excellent. There are now only three macaques left unrepresented in the thread: the Moor Macaque M. maura, Arunachal Macaque M. munzala, and White-cheeked Macaque M. leucogenys. I don't think the last two will get added any time soon but Moor Macaque is a possibility, especially as there are still some in Europe according to Zootierliste.

I am surprised no-one has photos from the Moor macaque that was kept in Zoo Berlin until recently.

Apparently there's only the photo found by TLD (on this post: The Zoochat Photographic Guide to Old World Primates) but I can't use that one because it is too bad.

Hopefully someone else might upload a good one...

Indeed; as noted before I believe we did have more, but - as is the case for many photographs older than 2010 - we lost them in the Great Purge.

I do have pictures of a Moor Macaque at Limbach Oberfrohna; at the moment, a lot of my old zoo pictures on an external hard drive which has a weird cable required to link it to a USB port. When I can get this sorted, I will be able to upload...

@Giant Eland has just uploaded a number of photos to the gallery for the EPRC in Vietnam (here: Endangered Primate Rescue Centre | ZooChat), and I have used some of these to replace photos previously used in the thread. One species, the Laotian Langur, was previously unrepresented by a photo.

I finally sorted out my hard drive, and have uploaded a (not brilliant) picture of the Moor Macaque at Limbach....
